Whiteboard for Windows is a digital whiteboard that can connect with myviewboard.com to support third party apps for cloud storage, videoconferencing, and screen sharing.

For a more detailed guide see Whiteboard for Windows.

View a printer-friendly summary of all toolbar icons for Whiteboard here.

Open Whiteboard for the first time

You may need to activate Whiteboard after opening it for the first time. Do this by entering an email address and following the link in the email, and then reopening the whiteboard program. If there is no prompt to do this, skip this step.

The sign in box for Whiteboard

Some basic whiteboard tools such as the pen tool are available without signing in. To access extra functions such as cloud account and videostreaming services, it is necessary to sign in to your myViewBoard account.

A sign-in box appears by default in the bottom-right of the screen. Click the I-host-information-grey.svg icon in the bottom-right of the screen to open the sign-in box if it is hidden.

Sign in with the same method you created your myViewBoard account, such as:

  1. email and password
  2. Google, Microsoft, or Apple account
  3. You can also use the myViewBoard Companion app to scan the QR code (this is often easiest if you have your phone to hand).

Working area and toolbars

Whiteboard has two toolbars - the main toolbar, which snaps to either the bottom, left, or right of the screen, and the floating toolbar which can be freely moved. Below is a list of all toolbar icons and their functions. For a printer-friendly list see all toolbar icons for Whiteboard here.

In addition to using existing files materials, creating presentations in Whiteboard can be done with digital whiteboard tools, the interactive tools found in Magic Box, and the embedded browser.

The core digital whiteboard tools such as pen, eraser, text and shapes tools are found in the main toolbar. By clicking twice on each of these icons you can also access further options - for example the pen tool includes Paint Brush, Highlighter, Laser, AI, Shape, and Magic Line Pen tools.

Magic Box for interactivity

Magic Box I-main-tool-bar-magic-box.svg contains many useful options to add interactivity to the whiteboard. Click/tap Magic Box in the main toolbar, then click/tap the desired tool, and simply drag the selected tool or file onto the canvas.

From Magic Box you can access local and cloud storage, add sticky notes, useful tools such as timers and calculators, use the device camera for photos, add educational clips, add pre-approved web images and videos, widgets, and quizzes. Students can share documents to the whiteboard and participate in polls and quizzes via myviewboard.com. The session host can then access these features through Magic Box in Whiteboard for Windows.

Change the background

Change the whiteboard background by: importing images from local and cloud storage, or by using myViewBoard custom backgrounds.

The background management iconI-background-menu.svg is located in the bottom left of the screen.

myViewBoard also provides free content accessible from the background management pop-out window. myViewBoard Originals is regularly updated and is also accessible from this page on the wiki.

Embedded web browser

Whiteboard for Windows also features a built-in web browser, accessible by clicking I-floating-toolbar-embeded-browser.svg in the floating toolbar when not in present mode. Using this keeps Whiteboard open in the foreground as normal, and displays the web browser in a pop-out window.

You can also access the full Windows operating system including web browsers by clicking the Windows Toggle Button I-main-toolbar-windows-toggle.svg.

Wireless presentation and screensharing

You can share the whiteboard screen wirelessly via the Wireless Presentation Edu CastOut Disconnect.png icon in the top-right of the screen. You need to be signed in to your myViewBoard account for this feature to work.

Alternatively, Whiteboard for Windows integrates with Zoom, Skype, and GoToMeeting. Configure third party connections via the FollowMe settings on myviewboard.com.

Record screen and take screenshots

To record or screenshot your screen click the Screen capture I-main-toolbar-screen-capture.svg icon in the main toolbar. From here, there are options to record the whole screen and save locally, or take full or partial screenshots and add the image onto the whiteboard canvas.

Screen recording and screenshots apply to the whole device, not just whiteboard.

Present mode

By default Whiteboard opens into prepare mode. Switching to present mode makes the whiteboard fullscreen, hiding the Microsoft Windows Taskbar. This can be useful if recording or wirelessly presenting your whiteboard. Videos and media are interactive in the same way during both present and prepare modes, however the embedded browser is also hidden.
