How are sounds made?

A popular way of playing "music" is to create sounds using a metal spoon to hit glass vessels containing varying amounts of water. However, we can also experiment with sounds produced by blowing over bottles (which creates a small air column) which contain more or less water. How are the sounds different? How do we create sounds with a lower pitch? With a higher pitch?
Teachers can conduct experiments to explain that vibrations make sounds and sound can make materials vibrate. Then, to start the conversation about different types of sound in the class.
