When a new entity is created, assigned administrators may need to install myViewBoard to multiple computers. This process may be inconvenient and time-consuming if done manually. To solve this issue, administrators can use Group policy, which is one of the administrative tools provided by Microsoft.

Procedure

Click on the images for a larger view.

Download the myViewBoard MSI installer

  1. Go to https://myviewboard.com/
  2. Sign in with an entity management account.
  3. Click on "Entity Management"

  4. Download the correct MSI file for your Windows version.

Use Orca to create an MST file

  1. Download and install Orca, which is a tool for editing MSI files.
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/msi/platform-sdk-components-for-windows-installer-developers

  2. Using a file explorer, navigate to the location of the MSI file, right click on the file, and select "Edit with Orca".

  3. After Orca opens, click Transform > New Transform.
  4. On the left panel, click Property.
  5. On the right panel, locate and update the ORGANIZATION value to the preferred entity name.

  6. To verify if the entity name is correct, go to https://myviewboard.com, and then go to "Entity Management".

  7. Finally, click Transform > Generate Transform to start MST creation.

Create an Organization Unit (Optional)

  1. Sign in as an admin to a Windows server with a Domain Controller role.
  2. Open Server Manager > Tool > Active Directory Users and Computers
  3. Right click on the domain to deploy to, then select New > Organization unit.

  4. Server Manager creates a new Organization Unit.

Create a Group Policy to deploy the MSI and MST files

  1. Sign in as an admin to a Windows server with a Domain Controller role.
  2. Open Server Manager > Tool > Group Policy Management
  3. Right click on the corresponding Organization Unit, then select "Create GPO in this domain, and link it here..."

  4. Provide a GPO name.

  5. Right click on the new GPO, then select Edit.

  6. A new window appears.

  7. Under Computer Configuration, select Policies > Software Settings > Software installation.

  8. Click on the right panel, then select New > Package.

  9. Choose the myViewBoard msi file.

  10. Select "Advanced", and click OK.

  11. Go to the Modifications tab, and click Add.

  12. Choose the myViewBoard MST file we just created.

  13. Click OK.

(Optional) Manually deploy Group Policy settings to clients

After the deployment process is complete, the group policy executes automatically according to server settings.

However, if the administrator needs to immediately verify if group policy settings are correct, perform the following:

  1. First, launch a client under the domain.
  2. Open Command Prompt.
  3. Type the following command:
 gpupdate /Force
