myViewBoard Manager is a tool for Entity Admins to remotely manage multiple installations of ViewSonic devices, such as ViewBoard, ViewSonic CDE, and ViewBoard Box.

To access Manager, click the Manager tile after signing into myviewboard.com. Alternatively, first click Entity Management, and then click Manager on the side panel.

Note that this option is only available for users signed in using an Entity Admin or Owner account, typically used by school principals and IT directors.

Download Manager to devices

System requirements

System requirements
  • myViewBoard Manager is preinstalled on ViewSonic devices, which includes all ViewBoard models, ViewBoard Box connected devices, CDE 12 & 20 series, and a limited series of ViewSonic LED displays running Android 7 or higher. All ViewSonic IFPs come preinstalled with Android built-in native to the ViewBoard OS. In case the app is not found, please download it from myviewboard.com and install it.
  • To successfully use remote control features, ensure that TCP Port 443 is open on your network.
  • "Allow installation of apps from unknown sources" must be enabled on the IFP/device.


Enable installation of apps from unknown sources on IFPs

Steps to enable the Install apps from unknown sources setting will vary depending on the IFP model. See the following pages for examples:

If in doubt, your IFP's user manual will most likely contain instructions on installing APK files. If you need further assistance, see if you can find your answers here, or contact your IFP reseller for more details.


Manager web console is available to Entity Admins and Owners after signing in to myviewboard.com. To register a device under an entity (so it appears in the Manager web app), first, make sure the Manager Android app is installed on the device.

All ViewSonic IFPs come preinstalled with Android built-in native to the ViewBoard OS.
In case the app is not found, please follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to myviewboard.com.
  2. Once signed in, click the Download myViewBoard applications on the top toolbar.
  3. Click Manager Android APK on the new window to start downloading.

Add devices to Manager

Once devices are set up and have the myViewBoard Manager app installed, they can be added to an entity and managed remotely from the Manager web app (available to entity admins after signing into myviewboard.com).

On the device to manage:

  1. Open the app and note the 6-digit PIN displayed.

On myViewBoard Manager web console:

  1. Click the Add device button ManagerAddNewPlaylist.svg.
  2. Input the 6-digit PIN you obtained earlier.
  3. Name the device (optional).
  4. Add the device to a new or existing group (optional).
  5. Click Add.


Other methods also allow for adding devices to Manager.

Using a serial number (SN)
On the device to manage:

  1. Locate the device's SN, whether in the system settings or on the device itself.


On Manager web console:

  1. Within the Manager web console, click the Add device button ManagerAddNewPlaylist.svg.
  2. Toggle the popup to Serial number view.
  3. Input the device's SN.
  4. Name the device (optional).
  5. Add the device a new or existing group (optional).
  6. Click Add.


Using batch enrollment
On the device to manage:

  • Option 1: Collect all 6-digit PINs from the devices to be added.
  • Option 2: Collect all SNs from the devices to be added.

On Manager web console:

  1. Within the Manager web console, click the Add device button ManagerAddNewPlaylist.svg.
  2. Click the Question.png button and download the enrollment spreadsheet template (*.xlsx file type).
  3. Add all device PINs or SNs to the template.
  4. Back on the Add device prompt on Manager web console, click Import device list.
  5. Upload your updated batch enrollment file.
  6. Click Ok.


Using myViewBoard Companion app
On the device to manage:

  • Launch myViewBoard Manager Android app to view a unique QR code.

On Companion app:

  1. Launch the Companion app, and ensure you are logged in with an entity admin account.
  2. Tap the QR-reader function CompanionQRCode.svg, and scan your device's QR code.
  3. Input device information as needed.
  4. Click Submit to add the device to Manager.

Sort devices into groups

Organizing devices into groups allows for more convenient management.

Create a group:

  1. On the side panel, click MVB M groups.svg Groups to expand the group dropdown list.
  2. Below the groups list, click Add a group.
  3. Input your desired group name.
  4. Click Create Group.


Add devices to the group:

  1. On the side panel, click MVB M groups.svg Groups to expand the group dropdown list.
  2. Click the group to which you wish to add a device.
  3. Within the selected group's panel, click the Add to group button ManagerAddNewPlaylist.svg.
  4. In the popup window, select all devices you wish to add to this group.
  5. Click Ok.
  6. The devices should now appear in the device list for this group.


You can also star devices so you can easily find them later in the Starred panel.


Add devices to Starred (favorites):

  1. On any group list, locate the device you want to add to the starred panel.
  2. Click the star beside the device name.
  3. The star icon will turn yellow.
  4. Click MVB M starred.svg Starred on the side panel to view starred devices.


Remove devices from a group:

  1. On the side panel, click MVB M groups.svg Groups to expand the group dropdown list.
  2. Click the group from which you wish to remove a device or devices.
  3. Click the checkbox for all devices you wish to remove.
  4. At the top bar of this group's panel, click link to remove the device(s) from the group.

Manage devices

myViewBoard Manager displays all your managed devices in a list on the MVB M all devices.svg All Devices panel, including options to quickly manage your devices through a remote control.

The right-most panel contains the remote control. Click the checkbox of your desired device to display it.

Remote control contains the following features:

A device info view is also available at any time:

  1. Click the row of the device for which you wish you view more info. (Note: Don't click the checkbox.)
  2. A Device Info side panel will appear.


Alternatively, a more detailed device info view is available.

  1. Double-click the row of the device for which you wish you view more info. (Note: Don't click the checkbox.)
  2. A Device Info panel will open.
  3. You can complete the following from this view:
    • Edit the device name and tag.
    • Edit the device's group.
    • Add and edit notes.
    • View device info.
    • View device statistics.
    • Install and delete apps on the device.
    • View OS info.
    • Access the remote control for this device.
    • Factory reset MVB M starred.svg the device.



Broadcast messages to devices

The free version of Manager includes broadcasting messages to devices in text form. With a Manager Advanced license, image and video broadcasting or playlist broadcasting is supported.

To broadcast text messages to devices:

  1. On the MVB M all devices.svg All Devices panel, select one or more devices on the list.
  2. Click the Broadcast button MVB M broadcasting.svg to open the text broadcast prompt.
  3. Input your desired message.
  4. Select the duration of the broadcast.
  5. (Optional) Check the box if you wish to forbid the device user from manually ending the broadcast. Otherwise, they can do so by tapping the screen.
  6. Click Ok to broadcast.


To broadcast image or video to devices (Manager Advanced license required):

  1. First, view the Advanced devices list by toggling the Advanced devices button Toggle manager.jpg.
  2. Select the devices to broadcast to.
  3. Click Broadcast MVB M broadcasting.svg and then Multimedia.
  4. Select the media (image or video) to broadcast.
  5. Select the duration of the broadcast.
  6. (Optional) Check the box if you wish to forbid the device user from manually ending the broadcast. Otherwise, they can do so by tapping the screen.
  7. Click Ok to broadcast.


To broadcast a playlist to devices (Manager Advanced license required):

  1. First, to create a playlist, on the side panel click MVB M resource.svg Resource and then ManagerPlaylistMenu.svg Playlist.
  2. Click New playlist and input the playlist's name.
  3. Click ManagerAddNewPlaylist.svg, select all media that will compose your playlist, and click Ok.
  4. Go to the MVB M all devices.svg All Devices panel.
  5. View the Advanced devices list by toggling the Advanced devices button Toggle manager.jpg.
  6. Select the devices to broadcast to.
  7. Click the Broadcast MVB M broadcasting.svg button and then Playlist.
  8. Select your desired playlist.
  9. Select the duration of the broadcast.
  10. (Optional) Check the box if you wish to forbid the device user from manually ending the broadcast. Otherwise, they can do so by tapping the screen.
  11. Click Ok to broadcast.


To stop broadcasting:

  1. Select the device for which you wish to end broadcasting.
  2. In the toolbar above the device list, click Stop Broadcasting Manager StopBroadcasting.svg.


Install apps to devices

  1. Click MVB M resource.svg Resources and then MVB M apps.svg Apps on the side panel.
  2. Click MVB M add.svg.
  3. Upload all APK files from your local drive you wish to add to Manager.
  4. Go to the MVB M all devices.svg All Devices panel and select the devices you wish to install apps on.
  5. Click the Apps button MVB M apps.svg on the top toolbar.
  6. Click Install.
  7. In the popup, select all apps you wish to install and click Ok.
  8. App installation will begin after the The command has been sent message appears.


To uninstall apps:

  1. On the MVB M all devices.svg All Devices panel, select one or more devices on the list.
  2. Click the Apps button MVB M apps.svg on the top toolbar.
  3. Click Uninstall.
  4. In the popup, select all apps you wish to uninstall and click Ok.
  5. Uninstallation will begin after the The command has been sent message appears.


Create and assign jobs

Jobs are predetermined actions that can be applied immediately or scheduled to devices. Multiple jobs can be applied to devices or groups of devices. These are the actions currently available:

  • Set audio volume
  • Power off
  • Change input source
  • Screen lock/unlock
  • Screen on/off
  • Update firmware
  • Broadcast message
  • Broadcast multimedia
  • Broadcast playlist
  • Install apps
  • Send files
  • Add Wi-Fi SSID
  • Allow installation of unknown apps
  • Forbid installation of unknown apps
  • Enable remote desktop
  • Settings lock/unlock



Job scheduling is an add-on feature requiring a Manager Advanced subscription - see below.

Backup and restore

The backup and restore function allows you to create restoration points, either manually or on a schedule, from which you can restore the state of Manager to these saved backups.

The free version of Manager only allows for 1 restoration point, while Manager Advanced offers up to 10 restoration points.

To create a backup:

  1. Click the settings button ClassroomSetting232434234.svg at the top-right corner of Manager console.
  2. Click Backup and Restore ManagerRestore.svg.
  3. Method 1: Scheduling
    1. Toggle the Scheduling switch and then click Edit.
    2. Set the schedule at which the system will automatically backup.
    3. Click Ok.
  4. Method 2: Create a restoration point
    1. Click the Create a restore point button.
    2. Confirm you want to manually create a restoration point by clicking Yes.


To restore Manager to a previous state:

  1. Open the settings menu and click Backup and Restore.
  2. Under Date and Time, locate the restoration point to which you wish to revert.
  3. Click the restore button ManagerRestore.svg.
  4. Confirm you want to restore the system to this backup point by clicking Yes.


Locking a restoration point:

  1. Under Date and Time, click the lock button MVB M Lock.svg.
  2. This restoration point now cannot be overwritten.


API integration

With Manager's API integration, IT Admin can connect to existing 3rd-party platforms via RESTful web services. Actions such as Broadcast message and Get device statistics can thus be triggered with REST commands.

Generate and access API keys:

  1. Click the settings button ClassroomSetting232434234.svg at the top-right corner of Manager console.
  2. Click the API Keys button ManagerAPIKeysIcon.svg.
  3. Take note of your Entity ID, which is required to execute REST commands.
  4. Click the Add API Key button to generate a unique authentication key.
  5. Copy this authentication key and keep it safe. This is the only time it will be shared.

You are now ready to execute REST commands via your 3rd-party web service.



Note: While on the API Keys popup window, click ManagerAPIKeysDocButton QuestionMark.svg to access the myViewBoard Open API Doc, which will introduce the formatting and execution instructions to perform REST commands.

myViewBoard Manager is available for free to Entities, with additional features available with a Manager Advanced subscription.

How to acquire Manager Advanced licenses

If your organization is already set up with an Entity account, contact a ViewSonic representative via our contact form. Under I'd like to..., select Request Manager Advanced 90-day free trial. Alternatively, you can reach out to your established ViewSonic representative or Certified MSP.

If your organization has not yet signed up for an Entity account, find out more about the Entity signup process.

Assign Manager Advanced licenses to devices

Manager Advanced works on a per-device basis. IT admins can purchase the number of Manager Advanced licenses to suit their requirements, and assign the licenses to devices in Manager. A license is purchased for a minimum of one year - the activation date can be decided by the user. myViewBoard offers 1, 3, 5, and 7 year subscriptions.



To assign Manager Advanced licenses to devices:

  1. On the MVB M all devices.svg All Devices panel, check the box next to the device(s) you wish to add to Manager Advanced.
  2. Next, click MVB M advanced license.svg to assign Manager Advanced licenses to the selected devices.


To view Advanced devices only:

  1. On MVB M all devices.svg All Devices, click Toggle manager.jpg to toggle the view to only Manager Advanced devices.
  2. Click the toggle button again to switch back to the all devices view.


To remove Manager Advanced licenses:

  1. On MVB M all devices.svg All Devices, click Toggle manager.jpg to toggle the view to only Manager Advanced devices.
  2. Check the box next to the device(s) you wish to remove from Manager Advanced.
  3. Click the Remove from Advanced devices icon MVB M remove advanced.svg. (Note: This does not remove the device from Manager - it only disables the Advanced features for this device and frees up an Advanced License for use on another device.)


Broadcast an image, video, or playlist

To broadcast image or video to devices:

  1. First, view the Advanced device list by toggling the Advanced devices button Toggle manager.jpg.
  2. Select the devices to broadcast to.
  3. Click Broadcast Link= and then Multimedia.
  4. Select the media (image or video).
  5. Select the duration of the broadcast.
  6. (Optional) Check the box if you wish to forbid the device user from manually ending the broadcast. Otherwise, they can do so by tapping the screen.
  7. Click Ok to broadcast.

To broadcast a playlist to devices:

  1. View the Advanced devices list by toggling the Advanced devices button Toggle manager.jpg.
  2. Select the devices to broadcast to.
  3. Click the Broadcast MVB M broadcasting.svg button and then Playlist.
  4. Select your desired playlist.
  5. Select the duration of the broadcast.
  6. (Optional) Check the box if you wish to forbid the device user from manually ending the broadcast. Otherwise, they can do so by tapping the screen.
  7. Click Ok to broadcast.

To stop broadcasting:

  1. Select the device to update.
  2. In the toolbar above the device list, click Stop Broadcasting Manager StopBroadcasting.svg.

Files to upload must not exceed the following sizes:

  • Maximum video file size: 300MB
  • Maximum image file size: 30MB


Device usage reports

Usage reports can be generated for custom time frames, displaying information about device, app, and input source usage times. These statistics are displayed graphically within the Reports panel or can be exported to an Excel file (.xlsx).

Access device usage reports by clicking Sharp-bar-chart`.svg Reports in the left side panel.


Action log

Action Log shows the username, time, affected device(s), and other information related to actions performed within Manager. As such, Action Log can be used to troubleshoot issues and track actions.

Access the action log by clicking MVB M action log.svg Action Log in the side panel. Click MVB M more.svg to download an .xlsx file of the entire action log.

Schedule jobs

Jobs must first be created before being applied to devices.

In the jobs menu, click ManagerAddNewPlaylist.svg to create a new job.

If no schedule is applied to a job, the action will be performed immediately when applied to a device. Jobs can also be planned for a specific time as a one-off event, or a recurring event. Recurring events can be scheduled daily or weekly.

If a job is created with a schedule, its schedule can be toggled on and off in the jobs list.



Transfer files

Supported file types
(max. 100 MB per file):
All non-media and non-app file types
Supported media file types:
  • .mp4
  • .jpg
  • .png
File size limitations:
  • Video: 300MB
  • Image: 30MB
  • Other files: 100MB

Upload files to Manager first before transferring them to devices:

  1. Click MVB M resource.svg Resource and then MVB M files.svg Files on the side panel.
  2. On loading, you will see files previously uploaded and the amount of space used so far.
  3. Click MVB M add.svg to upload a new file from your device. Simply drag and drop or click Choose files.

Note: Any images or videos uploaded are available to be included within a playlist (see below).

To transfer files from Manager to devices:

  1. On the MVB M all devices.svg All Devices panel, click Toggle manager.jpg to toggle the view to only Manager Advanced devices.
  2. Check that the device is online (indicated by a green circle under Status).
  3. Click the checkbox for the devices to which you wish to send the file(s).
  4. Click the File button MVB M files.svg in the toolbar above the device list.
  5. Select the file(s) you wish to transfer and then click Ok.

Note: Max. total storage on Manager Advanced is 15GB.



Create a playlist

To create a playlist:

  1. On the side panel click MVB M resource.svg Resource and then ManagerPlaylistMenu.svg Playlist.
  2. Click New playlist and input the playlist's name.
  3. Click ManagerAddNewPlaylist.svg.
  4. On the Media repository files tab select all media that will compose your playlist, and click Ok.

This playlist will now be available to send to devices using the broadcast feature.


Permissions

On the MVB M permissions.svgPermissions panel, manage the actions other admin users can take within Manager. You can also select the device groups to which you wish to limit a user's permissions.


Schedule startup & shutdown

To schedule an automated startup and shutdown cycle:

  1. Go to the MVB M all devices.svg All Devices panel.
  2. View the Advanced device list by toggling the Advanced Devices button Toggle manager.jpg.
  3. Click the checkbox for the device to which you wish to schedule the startup and shutdown.
  4. On the Remote Control panel that appears, click the Schedule Startup & Shutdown button MVB M startup-shutdown.svg.
  5. Click MVB M add.svg and set the times and days devices will power on and power off.
  6. Click Ok. These schedules can be edited or deleted at any time, or can be switched on or off with the toggle button MVB M switch.svg.
