myViewBoard Companion app is available for iOS and Android devices. Users can control their own Whiteboard session, or interact with other Whiteboard sessions.


The myViewBoard Companion app allows users to control various actions on a Whiteboard session using a mobile phone.

This document aims to be a printable guide that users can use as a quick 'cheat sheet' reference to the myViewBoard icons.



Get the Companion app

System Requirements
  • Android devices must be running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher.
  • Apple devices must be running iOS 9 or higher.


Download the Companion app

To install the app via the app store of your mobile device:

  1. Go to the Google Play or Apple Store app on your mobile device.
  2. Search for the myViewBoard Companion app.
  3. Install the app, and sign in (to access all features).

The myViewBoard.com web site also provides links to download the myViewBoard Companion app:

  1. Go to http://myViewBoard.com.
  2. Click Downloads.
  3. Depending on your device, click Companion on Google play or Companion on Apple Store link.
  4. Using a QR code reader app, take a picture of the QR code to get the download link.
  5. Open the download link to go to the correct download page of your device's app store.
  6. Click Install, and wait for the installation to complete.

Companion app before sign in

Without signing in to the Companion app with your myViewBoard account, only the Throw, Pop Quiz, and Polls features are available.


To use all features:

  • Sign in to your myViewBoard account.
  • If you haven't signed up yet, click Sign Up to open the myViewBoard.com page where you can sign up for a new account.

Once logged in, you will be able to use the Companion app as a remote control for your Whiteboard for Windows or Whiteboard for Android sessions.


After sign in

When signed in, users can access 3 pages:

Participate Screen

This screen is for interacting with Whiteboard sessions from other users, for example sharing files or participating in quizzes.

When signed in, you will also see your user profile picture/icon in the top left. Click this to for settings and to sign out of the app.

Options to send objects and answers to a Whiteboard session

The participate screen contains following icons:

Throw
Sends an object to the Whiteboard host specified.
This feature is available even without signing in.

Pop Quiz
Sends a response to a Pop Quiz.
This feature is available even without signing in.

Polls
Sends answer to different question types asked by the teacher in Polls.
This feature is available even without signing in.

QR Signin
Scan a myViewBoard QR code to sign in to a session.
After successful signin, the icon is hidden.


Sign in to Whiteboard with the Companion app

A quick and secure way of signing in to Whiteboard sessions, without having to type an email address or password, is using the Companion app to sign in to the Whiteboard. Users can sign in to Whiteboard by scanning the QR code, using the Companion app (if signed in to the app).

  1. Launch the Companion app.
  2. Sign in, if not already.
  3. Click the QR Code icon ( ) to open the phone's camera.
  4. Position the phone so that the QR code displayed on the Whiteboard for Windows or Android program is inside the QR 'scanner' of the myViewBoard Companion app.


Using the QR Code shows the following screens:

Throw


Sign in is not required to use the Throw feature. Before using these features, ensure that the target myViewBoard session is already active.

  1. Click the Throw icon.
  2. Select an image or video to throw.
  3. On the next screen, provide the Host Name and your name.
    • The Host Name is the name of the myViewBoard session you are throwing to. This should be provided by the user hosting the myViewBoard session.
    • Click the CAnew-Icons-ThrowHistory.jpg icon to see a list of Host Names, you previously sent files to.
  4. Click the icon.

If successful, the myViewBoard host should receive a notification.


Using the Throw feature shows the following screens:

Throw Empty
Throw Picture Edit
Throw Picture Hostname


Installing the app also adds the Throw feature as a sharing option. To use on your mobile phone:

  1. On any app that is capable of performing the "share" action, click Share, or the    icon if available.
  2. From the list of apps, select Companion.
  3. On the next screen, provide the Host Name.
    • The Host Name is the Name of the myViewBoard session you are throwing to. This should be provided by the user hosting the myViewBoard session.
    • Click the CAnew-Icons-ThrowHistory.jpg icon to see a list of Host Names, you previously sent files to.
  4. Click the icon.


Pop Quiz

Sign in is not required to use the Pop Quiz feature. Before using these features, ensure that the target myViewBoard session is already active.

  1. Click Pop Quiz icon.
  2. Use the available tools to answer a Pop Quiz:

    Folder
    Inserts images stored on the device.
    To delete, drag the image on the screen to the trashcan icon.

    Move
    If enabled, indicates that any image or text on screen can be moved.

    Text tool
    Click to add typed text.
    To delete, drag the text on the screen to the trashcan icon.
    CAnew-Icons-Eraser.jpg
    Eraser
    Deletes drawn lines.
    CAnew-Icons-Pen.jpg
    Pen
    Click to draw an answer by hand.
    To change the width, click the pen icon again.

    Color
    Changes the active pen color.


  3. Click the icon.
  4. On the next screen, provide the Host Name and your name.
    • The Host Name is the Name of the myViewBoard session you are throwing to. This should be provided by the user hosting the myViewBoard session.
    • Click the CAnew-Icons-ThrowHistory.jpg icon to see a list of Host Names, you previously sent files to.
  5. Click again the icon.


If successful, the myViewBoard host should receive a notification.


Using the Pop Quiz feature shows the following screens:

To recall a thrown file, go to the settings menu.
