Teachers can use Classroom to host an online class. Classroom includes a digital whiteboard and a dashboard which open in separate browser tabs - we recommend using two screens to see both simultaneously. The whiteboard canvas tab is for presenting lesson materials, and the dashboard allows you to see each individual student and student groups, and manage the class.

This page serves as a quick start guide for teachers, if you are a student see Classroom for Students, and for an in-depth look see Classroom.

Create engaging lessons

The main toolbar contains most of the key tools to create and import lessons. It appears on the right side of the screen by default but can be dragged to either side of the screen.

Teachers have the following tools to create a lesson:

Lesson ideas

Invite students

  • Each Classroom session has a unique ID. You can also set a session password - do this in FollowMe settings.
  • The Classroom session can be shared as a web address directly, or by QR code.
  • Classroom can also connect with Google Classroom, allowing the student list to be transferred directly into the myViewBoard Classroom session. It also allows lesson materials to be posted directly to Google Classroom.

Manage students

Dashboard: your class overview

In a 'real' (physical) classroom the teacher can:

  • immediately see if any students have raised their hand and need help,
  • guage the engagement and attention level of the whole class and individual students,
  • assign students into groups and view group work side-by-side,
  • invite students to collaborate on the teacher's whiteboard,
  • have conversations with the whole class, a specific group, or individual students.

myViewBoard Classroom includes ways to do all of the above in a distance or hybrid learning scenario. This is achieved by the dashboard, which opens in a separate browser tab to the main (whiteboard canvas) tab.

Huddles: for group work

Huddles are groups for students. Each huddle has a canvas, with a page that corresponds to each teacher page - so everytime the teacher adds or deletes a page from the teacher canvas, the same action will be taken for the corresponding page in the student huddles.

The teacher can set the number of huddles, from one to thirty, in the dashboard (above the teacher videofeed). Use the drop-down menu or simply type the number of huddles required, and then click the shuffle button to randomly distribute students evenly between huddles.

By default, students cannot edit the huddle canvas. The teacher can toggle editing privileges for individual students, huddles, or the entire class, by clicking the icon Classroom 3.0 edit forbidden.svg next to the student, huddle, or in the bottom centre of the dashboard (for the entire class).

Tip: drag and drop to move students between huddles.

Use your webcam and microphone

First, click the streaming icon Classroom 3 teacher video audio streaming.svg at the bottom of the screen.
Click Classroom 3.0 video recorder.svg to begin sharing video from device camera/webcam. Click again to stop sharing video.
Click Classroom 3.0 video recorder off.svg to reopen video sharing.
Click Classroom 3.0 teacher microphone.svg to begin sharing audio. Click again to stop.
Click Classroom 3.0 teacher microphone off.svg to reopen audio sharing.
Minimize or Maximize the screen with this button Classroom streaming maxminimize-2.svg
To end audio and video sharing, click the stop button Classroom streaming end.svg

Raise Hand: for student questions

Just like in a physical classroom, a student can ask for help by raising their hand. The teacher will be able to see students that have raised hands from the dashboard, and can let them speak or choose to ignore it.

  1. Student clicks Classroom 3 student side Raise hand off.svg on their device.
  2. The teacher can see who has raised their hand from the dashboard in the second browser tab.
  3. The teacher can choose to ignore the student for now, enable speaking privileges for the student, or may use the chat function to speak with the student.

A student who has raised their hand for attention will appear in the dashboard with a yellow raised hand icon next to their avatar Raise hand20px.svg

Allow students to speak

The teacher can enable individual students, huddles, or the entire class to speak using their device microphones. The students also always retain the option to mute themselves.

  1. The teacher clicks Speak permission32px off.svg next to the student, huddle, or entire class.
  2. The icon will change color to red, indicating speaking is enabled Classroom 3 speak permission.svg.
  3. Students may be prompted to enable their microphone by the browser.
  4. Students can then speak to the teacher and class.
  5. Students can mute themselves by clicking Mute off.svg. The icon will change to red indicating microphone is muted.
  6. The teacher can disable speaking privileges by clicking Classroom 3 speak permission.svg again.

Troubleshooting: if the student is having difficulty sharing audio, check that their device has a working built-in or connected microphone. Then check that the browser they are using has access to the audio device.

Present your lesson

  • Classroom sessions open into Prepare mode, where you have access to all tools to create a lesson.
  • Switch to Present mode in the floating toolbar to interact with media. You can still draw on the canvas, navigate pages, and manage student interaction when in present mode.
