Classroom is an online browser-based education platform within myViewBoard Ecosystem. It is designed as a collaborative learning tool for delivering teaching, visual learning and participation for a full class, individuals or groups of students. myViewBoard Classroom can be used in a physical or virtual Classroom scenario.

Classroom has been designed to be adaptive to different teaching pedagogies, making it suitable for traditional front of class teaching, flipped classroom, blended/hybrid teaching styles and distance or remote learning.

Overview

A general overview of how to use myViewBoard Classroom:


  • Classroom Session ID. The Teacher shares the unique Classroom ID to all required students to connect to the session.
  • Online Digital Whiteboard. Teachers and students connect to a shared digital whiteboard canvas for visual communication and presentations.
  • One-way video conference. Teachers can broadcast a direct live-stream using the webcam on their device. Students will be able to view their teachers when they join the Classroom session.
  • Two-way audio. Teachers can moderate the class by selecting which students can talk at any given time.
  • Hand raise. Students use the push-to-talk feature to inform the teacher when they have a question or when they are asked to participate in a discussion.
  • Record session. Teachers can record the class to share with students who missed the session, or if students need to review the lesson at a later time.

Classroom - Collaboration Features
myViewBoard Classroom allows real-time collaboration and participation from all connected students accessing the virtual canvas at the same time, with options to split students into virtual huddle groups to complete tasks and worksheets as set by the teacher.

Classroom - Distance Learning Features
myViewBoard Classroom is also fully optimized for distance and remote learning, allowing teachers and students to participate in the Classroom session from any location via the web browser and integrated conferencing features.

More detailed instructions are given below.


Pre-requisites

Before starting myViewBoard ClassRoom, verify that you have already performed the following:

  • Sign up for a myViewBoard account. Classroom is accessible to both basic and entity accounts.
  • Authorize myViewBoard to access your Google Drive account.
  • Set up an environment with good network connectivity.
  • Login to a computer that has a working camera and microphone.
  • Download a chromium-based browser, preferably the latest versions of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.


System Requirements

Classroom performance depends on the number of objects visible on screen, the number of browser tabs open, and the number of other applications running during the Classroom session. In order to have the best possible experience working in Classroom, verify that the device to use for Classroom meets the following minimum system requirements:

  • CPU: Minimum 1.5 GHz (single-core), recommended 2.8 GHz (dual-core)
  • Memory: Minimum 2GB, recommended 4 GB
  • Network bandwidth Minimum 1 Mb/s, recommended 8 Mb/s


Some Classroom features use video content and may require more system resources to run smoothly. If you plan to use video content in your sessions, we recommend the following hardware specifications:

  • 1:1 video call: Dual-core processor and 4.0 GB RAM (or higher).
  • Online meetings/Classrooms: Dual-core processor and 8.0 GB RAM (or higher)
  • Classroom supports up to 30 attendees per session.

Launching Classroom

Once all requirements are met, you are ready to use myViewBoard ClassRoom:

  1. Launch your browser.
  2. Go to http://myviewboard.com and sign in with your myViewBoard account.
  3. On the main screen, click Classroom.
  4. At this point, you are presented with a blank canvas. You can draw on this canvas to communicate with your students or present your lessons.





Live streaming with a camera and microphone

  1. In order to use a camera and microphone, click the camera icon in the bottom right corner.
  2. Your video camera should automatically load if connected and already setup. If not, please refer to the setup instructions for Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome
  • Click to toggle the video stream on or off.
  • Click to mute/unmute your microphone.

If you granted permission to use your camera, a video feed automatically starts streaming on the bottom right side of the canvas. All students joining the class will be able to view this stream. If you did not grant permission, a black box appears on this area instead (or depending on the browser).


Recording your session

You can also record your current session to allow students to review the session again at a later time. To record your session, perform the following:

  1. Click the Start Recording button at the top of the canvas.
  2. If prompted, select the screen that contains the Classroom session and click Share.
  3. Recording should begin immediately. The button should now change to red to indicate Recording....
  4. Once the session is over, click the button again to stop recording.
  5. The browser pop up prompts to choose a save option, and saves the session as a WEBM video.

Note the following:

  • Sessions may be recorded up to a maximum of one hour only. Plan your lessons accordingly.
  • Sessions are saved as WEBM videos. To open WEBM videos, you can advise your students to do one of the following:
- To use the default Windows Media Player, install the K-Lite Codec Pack.
- Download and install other media players which have built-in support for WEBM, like VLC Media Player or Media Player Classic.
- If no suitable player is available at the time, students can drag WEBM videos to Google Chrome to start playback.


Inviting Students via Session ID

To add students to your new Classroom, perform the following:


For teachers

  1. Click the icon on the top right.
  2. Click the session ID.
  3. Share the session ID to your students using one of the following:
    • URL Link: Click to copy the URL to the clipboard. Use any messaging program to share the link.
    • QR code: Click to enlarge. Ask students to take a picture of the QR code and open the link. This is preferable if your students will access the Classroom through mobile.
    • Session ID only: If students have the Classroom URL already open, click the session ID to copy just the ID to the clipboard. Use any messaging program to share the link.
  4. Students who successfully join are shown on the left side panel.



For students

  1. Wait for the teacher to share the Classroom link.
  2. If given a URL or a QR code, open the link using a web browser.
  3. If given a session ID, open the following URL but replace the xxxxxx with the session ID.
    • https://myviewboard.com/vjoin?c=xxxxxx
  4. On the Classroom login page, specify a name. The session ID value is automatically filled in.
  5. Students should see the teacher's canvas and video feed after signing in.


Importing Students via Google Classroom

If your account is connected to a Google Classroom account, you can automatically import your students from a Google Classroom class.


For teachers

  1. Click on the top right corner.
  2. Click Logo-Google-classroom.svg to open the class selection menu.
    • If this is the first time to connect, click Bind class.
    • If no associated Google account is found, click Authorize binding.
  3. On the new window, click Bind on the Classroom that contains the students to import.
    Click Next to view more classrooms.
  4. If successful, the Student panel automatically populates with a list of student names.
    • Note the unique Login Code that appears beside each student name.
    • Distribute each Login Code to the correct student.


For students

  1. Wait for the teacher to provide the Login Code and the Classroom URL.
  2. Open a browser and go to the Classroom URL.
  3. On the Join the session screen, click the STUDENT tab.
  4. Type the Login Code provided by the teacher.
  5. Click Login.
  6. Students should see the teacher's canvas and video feed after signing in.


Managing Students

Teachers have the following options to manage their students:



VC broadcast mode gray.svg Teacher's view: When enabled, all students see the main canvas only.
VC huddle mode gray.svg Student's view: When enabled, students see only the canvas assigned to their huddle.
VC raise hand all off.svg Mute all: Cancels all 'Raise hand' requests and mutes everyone in the session.
VC disable ALL.svg Pen on: Enables everyone to interact with the canvas.
VC close.svg Collapse/Expand: Collapses/expands all huddle groups.
VC manage huddle.svg.svg Active huddle view: Selects which huddle is active.
VC tab huddles s.svg Huddle menu: Displays the Huddle List and Huddle management icons.
Huddle number: Sets the number of active huddles in the session.
VC tab people s.svg Students list: Shows a list view of all students in the session.


In a Classroom, students are organized into huddles. When students first enter a Classroom, they are assigned to a random huddle group.
The huddle panel is used to organize students into groups.


Using the Raise Hand feature

Students can click the Raise Hand feature if they have a question or want to participate in a discussion.



To use the feature, students must perform the following:

  1. Click the Raise Hand icon on the left panel.
  2. Wait for the teacher to grant them 'voice' access to the Classroom.
  3. After the teacher enables the feature, the icon starts blinking green.
  4. Click the blinking icon and get ready to talk. The icon should stop blinking.
  5. Start talking.
  6. Click the icon again to disable the feature.


Presenting on the Canvas

When teachers start Classroom, they are provided with one blank page on the canvas. The number of pages is shown on the floating toolbar. Teachers have the following tools to create a lesson:




Creating or importing lessons

Teachers can create a new lesson or import an existing lesson into Classroom. To start, click the File Management icon on the main toolbar and select one of the following.

Option Description
New file Creates a new blank canvas.
Note that the current canvas is discarded.
Open Loads the contents of a PDF or a QB file from the local drive into the lesson.
For multipage PDFs, each PDF page is inserted into its own canvas.
Export to .qb Downloads a copy of the lesson in QB format.
This lesson can then be loaded in future sessions.
Export to .pdf Saves a copy of the lesson in PDF format to the local drive.
Teachers can distribute the generated PDFs to their students.
QRCode Share Classroom generates a PDF version of the file, uploads it to the connected Google Drive account, and displays a QR code link.
Students will be able to see the QR code during the Classroom session and use the QR code to download the PDF file.


If a Google Drive account is connected, teachers have the option to share the lesson online. Teachers can open and export files from the following locations:

  • This PC
Open a lesson or save a lesson in the local PC.
  • Google Drive
Open or save the lesson to Google Drive as a QB or PDF file.
If saved in Google Drive, the teacher can share the lesson (with other teachers) using one of the Google Drive sharing options.


Adding online resources to the lessons

Once teachers have started creating a lesson, they may want to insert additional resources to the lesson to increase engagement. To see available options, click the Magic Box icon on the main toolbar and select one of the following.

Images Search for images using keywords.
To insert, drag them to the canvas.
Google Drive Insert resources saved in the connected Google Drive account.
Note that only supported formats can be inserted.
YouTube Search for YouTube videos using keywords.
To insert, drag them to the canvas. Switch to presentation mode to play the video.
Web URL Embed a webpage onto the canvas.
Switch to presentation mode to activate the webpage.
Widgets A selection of ready-made animated images that users can insert on the canvas.
Users can click on the objects to trigger the animation.



Adding text and shapes

Use the text tool to add text labels, titles or headings to your lessons. To add text:

  1. Click the text tool icon on the main toolbar
  2. Click on the area of the canvas where you want to place the text.
  3. Type the text to insert.
  4. Use the icons on the toolbar to format the text.
  5. When you are done, click on another part of the canvas to save the changes.
  6. To move the text, activate the Selection tool, then click and drag the text to the new location.


To edit the text at a later time:

  1. Click the Selection tool on the main toolbar.
  2. Select the text by clicking on it.
  3. Click the selected text again to activate edit mode.


To add shapes and lines for Art, Math and Geometry lessons, perform the following:

  1. Click the Shapes/Lines tool icon on the main toolbar.
  2. Set the following properties before insertion:
    • Color. Select a color from the bottom row to change the hues available on the first two rows.
    • Thickness. Adjust the line width of the shape to insert.
    • Opacity. Adjust the transparency of the shape to insert.
    • Shapes/Lines type. Select the type of shape or line to insert.
  3. Click and drag on the area of the canvas where you want to insert the shape/line.
  4. To resize the shape/line, click the Selection tool on the main toolbar, select the shape then drag the handlebars.


Using the Pen tool

During a lesson, you can use the pen tool to highlight or label special areas of the canvas. Classroom provides the following pen types:


Option Description
Marker The Marker draws simple lines and is recommended for most uses. This is the default pen tool selected.
Laser The Laser Pen draws lines that are not persistent and disappear whenever the laser pen draws another line.
Highlighter The Highlighter draws transparent lines that can be used to highlight text.
AI Pen The AI pen tries to guess the object drawn by the user, and displays a set of suggested images based on the guess.

Managing the Canvas

The Floating toolbar to can be used to manage how the canvas is displayed during presentation.




Presentation Management

The following options allow the user to manage the canvas during presentation. Use the image map above for reference.


Click to navigate across the canvas pages. The floating toolbar displays the current page over the total number of pages.
Click to navigate across the canvas pages. The floating toolbar displays the current page over the total number of pages.
Click to start Presentation mode. In this mode, Classroom enables interactivity for all videos, web pages, and widgets inserted on the canvas.
Click to paste the current clipboard content onto the canvas.
Click to activate Eyes-on-me mode. In this mode, students are not able to interact with the canvas, and a text overlay is displayed over the students' canvases. The text can be customized. Click the icon again to toggle.


Background Management

The floating toolbar also provides options to change the canvas background. Use the image map above for reference.


Click to customize the background for each page.


  • The myViewBoard Original Content background images are available by default. Click on a tag to filter the images by category.
  • Click I-image-background.svg to search online for a background image.
  • Click I-google-drive-logo.svg to select a background image from Google Drive.
  • Click to set a solid color as the background.

Page Management

In case the lesson requires more pages, click on the floating toolbar to open the page management panel:


Click on the floating toolbar to open the page management panel. Note that the panel is still available during Presentation mode in case you need to create a new page during the lesson.
Click on either side to insert a new page on that side.
Click to delete a page.
Click to duplicate the current page of the canvas.


Reviewing Session Information

Use the options on the top right bar to view details about the current session.

  • Click to check which account is currently logged in.
  • Click to view the Help center.
  • Support. Opens the ViewSonic support page in a new tab.
  • Version. Displays version information of this build.


Session ID management

This area also contains session ID information. The session ID is a randomly generated value that students use to access your classroom.

  • Click to view the session ID for the current class.
  • Click the session ID to display more sharing options.


Other Settings

Click to open general settings for Classroom.

  • Language. Change the language of the UI.
  • Eyes on me. Modify the text that appears when the Eyes-on-me feature is used.
