Icon Classroom.svg Classroom is an online browser-based education platform within the myViewBoard Visual Learning Platform. It is a flexible tool that can be used in distance learning, hybrid learning, and traditional learning scenarios with physically present participants.

Teachers using Classroom can make use of a versatile digital whiteboard, prepare and deliver lessons, import existing lesson materials, manage groups of students, use the built-in video and audio sharing functionality, share and record their screen, present slides, and assign individual students or groups of students their own working canvases. There is also built-in cloud support for file storage, and access to YouTube and myViewBoard Clips.

Students can join Classroom sessions without creating an account by entering the teacher's unique ID on the website, or by following the URL given to them. Students can view the teacher's presentations and digital content, draw on the canvas (if enabled by the teacher), participate in group work, receive the teacher's video and audio, and can use the Raise Hand function to unobtrusively notify the teacher when they have a question. There is also a chat, grouped by whole class and student groups known as huddles.

To get started for the first time, please check system requirements and how to create a myViewBoard account.

Importing students via Google Classroom

If your myViewBoard account is connected to a Google Classroom account, you can automatically import your students from a Google Classroom class register. The student list from Google Classroom will then appear in myViewBoard Classroom. Lesson materials and session links can also be shared to Google Classroom.

For teachers:

  1. First, bind the Google Classroom account to the myViewBoard account - see the integrating with cloud services section on this page if not yet done.
  2. In Classroom, click User Profile VC user profile.svg on the top right corner.
  3. Click Google Classroom Logo-Google-classroom.svg to open the class selection menu.
    • If this is the first time to connect, click Bind class.
    • If no associated Google account is found, click Authorize binding.
  4. On the new window, select the desired class.
Click Next to view more classrooms.
  5. If successful, the Student panel automatically populates with a list of student names.
    • Note the unique login code that appears beside each student name.
    • Distribute each Login Code to the correct student.

Manage students

Teachers have the following options to manage their students:

VC broadcast mode gray.svg Teacher's view: When enabled, all students see the main canvas only.
VC huddle mode gray.svg Student's view: When enabled, students see only the canvas assigned to their huddle.
VC mute.svg Mute all: Cancels all 'Raise hand' requests and mutes everyone in the session.
VC pen off.svg Allow/Forbid: Allow and forbid student interaction with the canvas.
VC close.svg Minimize/Restore: Minimizes/Restores all huddle groups.
VC manage huddle.svg Active huddle view: Selects which huddle is active.
VC tab huddles s.svg Huddle menu: Displays the Huddle List and Huddle management icons.
Digit-two.svg Number of huddles: Sets the number of active huddles in the session.
VC tab people s.svg Students list: Shows a list view of all students in the session.

In a Classroom, students are organized into huddles. When students first enter a Classroom, they are assigned to a random huddle group.
The huddle panel is used to organize students into groups.

Raise hand

Students can click the Raise Hand feature Raise hand.gif if they have a question or want to participate in a discussion. Multiple students can talk at the same time. Teachers can see who has raised their hand in the student list - students will be flashing yellow if they have raised their hand.

To use the feature, students do the following:

  1. Click the Raise Hand icon on the left panel
  2. Wait for the teacher to grant them 'speak' access to the Classroom. Teachers do this by clicking the flashing yellow icon next to the student's name.
  3. After the teacher enables the feature, the raise hand icon for the student turns green.
  4. Student clicks the green icon again to finish talking, muting their microphone.

The student can also click the red microphone icon VC video sound on.svg above the raise hand icon to temporarily mute their microphone. This can useful if many students are in a discussion together, and also to avoid having to wait for the teacher's permission if there will be many separate times the student will talk. At any point the teacher can mute individual students or all students.

Troubleshooting: if the student is having difficulty sharing audio, check that their device has a working built-in or connected microphone. Then check that the browser they are using has access to the audio device.

Classroom has a built in chat function, with a Public Chat for the whole class, and for each huddle. For teachers, the chats are located on the left of the screen underneath the student list by default. For students/participants in the Classroom session, click 25px to open the chat.
